NAOMI ORESKES

" The U.S. scientific community has long led the world in research on public health, environmental science, and other issues affecting the quality of life. Our scientists have produced landmark studies on the dangers of DDT, tobacco smoke, acid rain, and global warming. But at the same time, a small yet potent subset of this community leads the world in vehement denial of these dangers." THE MERCHANTS OF DOUBTS, NAOMI ORESKES

e infatti: gli idignati vogliono venderne (si dice: trovare un partner per) Ansaldo Breeda, che produce i nostri treni;

Too many trigger happy for the Libyan case. Who are the rebels??? : the former Minister of Justice of the same Gaddafi?? is that a rebel?!?!?
It was not acceptable for many that Libya was opening up to Italy and Russia, and eventually they find an excuse to pull the trigger. Was it wrong to transform (with Italian mild diplomacy) a former international-public-enemy like Gaddafi into a cooperative counterpart?

Pensare è ordinare il caos
Poetare è versarlo in armonia.
Pensare è pane, poetare è vino.

Thinking is making order out of chaos,
Singing is pouring it into harmonics,
Thinking is bread, poems are wine

Election, Egypt, Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak, etc. etc.

AAA democratic election needed (in the neighbor Egypt)

..wishing them the most non-violent smooth transition,

today, 2011 Feb 12 of the Gregorian Calendar, 5770 and something of the Jewish Calendar,
Every political voice should have equal opportunities to be heard,
therefore, there should be fair elections,
every group that wants to run for elections must collect a certain number of signatures, thereafter it can present candidates to the parliament. Legality is a precondition for ordered and well-sorted outcomes. Encouraging legitimate request ; & discouraging any call for extremist behaviors. We have already too many instances of "extremes". One can find extremes everywhere: in the climate, the prices, the water, and many, too many political and religious ideologies. Enough! it is time to talk to each others!

BBC on a

official UK

Report:

"climate change 'will boost economy"

What?

Is this a Royal approach to climate change:

a) climate is going nuts;
b) what can we benefit from that?;

but also:
3) developed country will be able to cope with extreme weather events and they will attract investments..;
4) developing countries will be more vulnerable;

I DON'T BELIEVE THAT #3 IS CORRECT, because climate doesn't make discount to anybody. History itself is a collective process... anyway..

Ok, two very first comments :

perhaps developed country will be more ready to cope with extreme phenomena, happening once in while,
but they will certainly pay more in terms of economic losses.
why? just because expensive infrastructures are costly to fix and/or replace.

Moreover, how English researchers concluded that social and economical problems rising all over the world will not affect the Great Britain eventually?? ... and how they can even imagine that, on the contrary, GB will benefit from that?!?

..those answers will be found in the Psychological domain of the governmental researchers.

food security vs ..security

when we talk about security we automatically think about military security. fine.. but not enough..

what does it mean rising food prices?
what does it mean overexploitation of water resources all over the world ?
how to use water  more efficiently ?
what does it mean food security ?

as it is now happening in Egypt*, food crisis can end up in political crisis therefore global food-security somehow is every nation national-security.

* although... rising food prices in Egypt may be just a pretext an excuse, instrumentally used by those that are addressing the masses

Shadows and distortions

Time series may be thought as one particular realization of an higher (and hidden) deterministic system. In other words we can consider a time series as a special/particular/noisy realization of a precise process. Sometimes our series could give us a simplified idea of the pure system behind it, sometimes not. As Plato would love to hear: we can only watch the shadows of the pure mechanism that intercept the light of the indefinitely precise. Those shadows hit the wall of our space having undergone a number of mysterious distortions. Those distortions are produced in a dimension not at all familiar to our perception.

These signals are drawn from a database signals that includes event related potentials of normal people, and patients with Alzheimer's disease. Here the original signals (below) and theirs (CWT) continuous wavelet transforms (above).

The name of the game is always the same: find the differences and find the good brain.
